Passage: Psalm 19:1-8

Preacher: Mike Dyrdal

Series: The Ten Words for Our Time

Category: The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments have been a pillar of Western law and culture for centuries. In recent years it seems they’ve been most visible in  controversies about whether they should be displayed in the public square. Some see these “ten words” as negative and prohibitive in nature, while others regard them as friends who can make life richer and more fulfilling.

  • God is not trying to spoil our fun.
  • Ten commandments are summarized by Jesus in Luke 10:26-28 - "Love God and Love Others"
  • The Law is not to scare us into obedience, but to teach us how to love God and others.
  • The spirit of the law take priority over the letter of the law.

The Ten Commandments:

  1. You shall have no other gods before (or besides) me
  2. You shall not make for yourself a graven image
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
  4. Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy
  5. Honor your father and mother
  6. You shall not kill
  7. You shall not commit adultery
  8. You shall not steal
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
  10. You shall not covet anything of your neighbor
